Sharing Is Here To Stay
Let’s face it, peer to peer sharing is here to stay. Much credit needs to be given to AirBNB for starting the phenomenon but it has erupted in so many different directions since and for good reason:
- It’s Cool – There’s something really cool about not knowing exactly what to expect with where you’re headed. I was talking to a friend the other day as he reminisced back to his first stay at an AirBNB listing. “I had no idea what I was getting into”, he said with a grin, “but I was excited to check it out and it added an extra unknown to the trip. After I checked in, the place was awesome and that unknown turned into another point of discussion with family and friends once the trip was over.”
- It’s Personable – You get to interact with people who live & breath that neighborhood or area. You don’t deal with a hotel clerk who is being paid to give you generic, general answers. You are dealing directly with someone, typically the owner, who has a real vested interest in making sure you have a great experience and time.
- Connections – There are some really awesome stories out there about lifelong friendships being started on peer to peer networks and it doesn’t surprise me one bit. Typically, people who are willing to rent out their private assets are people who like interaction with other individuals. Similarly, people who rent other people’s assets are typically outgoing and willing to try the non-conformist way of doing things. With each and every one of these bookings, you are putting together two like-minded individuals who want to share something with each other; friendships and connections are bound to spring up!
- It’s Affordable – This can be a hit or miss point but I think most people would agree that peer to peer sharing sites generally have cheaper options than the alternative. On the other hand, you can also find assets such as multi-million dollar houses, sports cars, and yachts that would never be available at your neighborhood hotel, car rental agency, or watersports rental location.
With a quick search on the internet, you can find peer to peer rental sites for houses, boats, bicycles, cars, surfboards, and a lot of stuff in between. So what about docks, moorings, & dry storage? That’s where Dock Skipper comes in and we’re thrilled to finally be live and accepting bookings. The response thus far has been incredible and while we’re still in the building stage of acquiring listings, we can’t wait to see the fruits of our labor in the coming months and years.
So if you’re not onboard the peer to peer sharing networks, it’s probably about time you hopped on. They’re here, they’re awesome, and they’re not going anywhere!
